TakeoutFM Server v0.30.0 and Native Apps

TakeoutFM Server v0.30.0 and Native Apps

November 2, 2026

A lot has happened since v0.27.0. The server has a new web UI and favorites, and the TakeoutFM apps have been rewritten as native apps for Android, Android TV, Wear OS, macOS, iOS, and Linux.

Server v0.30.0

The builtin web UI has been rebuilt. Pages have real URLs and playback continues while you browse. The layout follows the desktop apps with a sidebar, page headers with Play, Shuffle, Radio, and Favorite, and a mini player with a Now Playing screen and queue. Music, radio, and podcasts play in the web UI; movies and TV shows can be browsed. There are new Recently Added, New Releases, and Favorites pages, a redesigned Activity page, and Link a device for signing in TVs, watches, and desktop apps with a code. See the Web UI page for details.

Other changes since v0.27.0:

  • Favorite artists, tracks, movies, and TV shows (v0.29.0)
  • ListenBrainz now requires a token (ListenBrainz.Token) for popular tracks (v0.29.0)
  • Movie genres and recommendations available to the apps (v0.28.0)
  • Artist images and backgrounds, and an artwork job (v0.27.x)
  • Better TMDB matching using the year, and sharper TMDB images
  • Login throttling, stricter session cookies, and a Content-Security-Policy
  • Database index and security improvements

Important

Since v0.27.0, S3 endpoints must include https:// (or http://) and UseSSL is no longer used. Behind a proxy, set Server.ClientIPHeader so login throttling works per client. See configuration.

Native Apps

The Flutter apps have been replaced by native apps that share a common core written in Kotlin:

  • Android with Jetpack Compose and Media3, including Android Auto, Assistant, downloads, picture-in-picture video, and favorites
  • Android TV with Compose for TV, now with a music mode for radio and podcasts
  • Wear OS as a standalone watch app with downloads, a Tile, and a complication
  • macOS and iOS with SwiftUI, including a menu bar player on the Mac
  • Linux with Qt and KDE Kirigami, with MPRIS media controls

See the apps documentation for features and installation.
